ATG4B (autophagy-related 4B cysteine peptidase), a mammalian orthologue of yeast Atg4, is a cysteine protease.It is widely expressed in human and rat tissues, being most abundant in the brain. This gene is mapped to human chromosome 2q37.
ATG4B is a member of the C-54 family of cysteine proteases that is involved in cell degradation through autophagy.
